In the 15 months since our investment, Hippo Harvest built their greenhouse and are now proudly operating in my home state of California, where over half of the nation’s produce is grown, and where we have long witnessed the destructive effects of climate change, most recently a series of devastating floods. My field trip was a unique opportunity to see how Hippo Harvest’s first commercial greenhouse reduces the amount of water, fertilizer, and land required to affordably, productively, and reliably grow healthy produce using novel machine learning and robotics techniques.
